Bible Overview Begins In January

Posted: November 6, 2008
Category: News
Comments: Comments

DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY! Do you know that the average Christian has at best an 8th grade understanding of the Bible? No matter where you are in your knowledge of Scripture, you will appreciate this Bible Overview course. It will help grow you to an adult understanding of God’s Word.

Key concepts of Scripture run the length of the Bible and this course will identify them and take you through the Word adding a greater understanding and depth for your future Bible studies.

The Bethel Bible Series Overview will begin a new class on Wednesday, January 7th at 7:00-8:30pm. This course will cover the entire Bible in six 7-week units over two years. The six units begin in January, the Wednesday following Easter, and the Wednesday following Labor Day. The first year covers the Old Testament and the second year covers the New Testament. At the end of the Old Testament a four-week Between the Testaments unit is offered which covers the 400 years between the last writing of the Old Testament and the accounts of Jesus’ life (Gospels) in the New Testament. Since each session builds on previous sessions, it is important to begin with the first week. If you’re concerned about missing some sessions, please speak with Pastor Ric. Please sign up before December 1st.

Pastor Ric will teach this class and is interested in hearing from you right away so that materials can be ordered and on-hand for the Introduction session on January 7th. Please sign up here, at the Information Center, or at the Receptionist at the church office. Please provide contact information.

Here’s what some of those who’ve completed the course have said:
+ “I had never been interested in studying ‘Bible concepts.’ That has changed with my participation as a student in the Bethel Bible classes… [The] lectures and related studies in the Old Testament have opened to me a better understanding of the history of God’s redemptive plan and His faithfulness even as His chosen people repeatedly are unfaithful…”
+ “Anyone who has tried to read the Old Testaent on their own has probably found it a daunting task! …Bethel is a wonderful way to really learn something from and about the Word of the Lord. The connection with the Gospel is awesome! You will also see the faithfulness of God throughout creation and find out that the Old Testament is just as relevant today as it ever was.”
+ “…I now have a greater love of both the Old and New Testaments.”
+ “…Definitely time well spent. I want to do it again!”
+ “The information and knowledge you receive is so much more than when reading alone. So many questions about stories or questions you may have long had can be answered or at least enlightened. And the camarderie that develops with classmates is both enjoyable and helpful when in future activities at the church.”
+ “It is enlightening. It keeps you in the Word. It makes you realize God’s love for us and how we should return that love in our daily living.”
+ “If you haven’t read the Bible or if it’s been a while it will certainly come alive through the Holy Spirit.”
+ “It develops a good ground work and understanding to base your further learning on. Two hours a week is not a hard thing to commit to. The reading lessons are really not that hard because it’s broken down. You get to meet new people and make friends!”

Presidential Candidates Interview

Posted: October 27, 2008
Category: News
Comments: Comments

Tuesday evening, Oct 28th, at 7PM we will show the Civil Forum Interviews by Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, California which was nationally televised live, on August 16th.

This DVD will be shown at Resurrection for anyone wishing to view it. We are not promoting any particular candidate, but hope to provide more information to voters so that they can be more informed when they cast their ballots.

“Saddleback’s Civil Forum on The Presidency was an unpreceented event in the history of both Saddleback Church and the country. Watch as presidential hopefuls BArack Obama and John McCain, sit down with Pastor Rick Warren and a crowd of thousands in this natioinally-televised event to discuss candidly their view on heavy-hitting issues of spiritual faith, abortion, the state of the nation, greatest moral failures as a person and as a nation, and more.”

If you didn’t see this when it was televised in August, this is your chance. If you know of others who would like to see these unbiased interviews on faith issues, please encourage them to come watch this with you.

Tuesday evening at 7-9PM in the sanctuary at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1612 Meadow Edge, Spring, Texas. No childcare will be provided for this event. We will begin promptly at 7PM.

If God is the owner of our resources and we are His money managers, what are we doing with the money He’s entrusted to us? Do you need some training in the areas of budgeting, getting out of debt, saving for the future and giving beyond belief? As a married couple, what if you could improve your marriage by ridding yourself of financial stress? As a single, what if you could know you’re doing the right things with your money instead of just wondering about it?

Dave Ramsey wants to teach you how to be an effective manager of God’s money through Financial Peace, a life changing video-based course on personal finance. His methods will challenge your habits, and put you on course for better management of your life, for the benefit of your family, and for the glory of God.

Imagine what the people of God could do for the Kingdom of God if they were DEBT-FREE …
FPU is for everyone! Whether you’re young or old, broke or feeling secure, FPU has some-
thing to offer to you. On aver- age families have paid off over $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700
during this 91-day program. That’s an $8,000 change in position in just 3 months! This 13-week class will meet every Thursday at 6:45 PM in the Fellowship Hall, starting on September 11 and lasting until early December. Childcare will be available upon reservation.

For more information, please contact Rachel Byers at 713-480-1673. If you’re ready to register, please go to DaveRamsey.com/FPU to sign up. After you sign up you’ll need a membership kit - the Church has purchased some already (at a discount) so please ask us if we have any available be- fore you order one online. We can accept new members until September 7, to ensure people have their materials in time.

IvesNorthern California modern rock band, IVES, blends multi-part harmonies with alternat-tuning acoustic guitars, electric guitar textures, and ethereal keyboards in a style reminiscent of Leeland, Mae, and Sufjan Stevens. Jason (guitar) Grayson (guitar/background vocals), Caleb (guitar), Owen (keys), Peter (bass and Drew (drums/background vocals) grew up as friends in the town of Auburn, CA near Sacramento. They’re young (all of them are between the ages of 18 and 26) but their music is nuanced and mature in surprising ways. Their brand-new EP, Themes, was released in Summer 2007. Check out their sound at www.fishers.com/ives, then invite all your friends to join us for the evening! As usual there will be snacks, coffee, milkshakes, and soft drinks at very low cost…from .50 to $1.00! So bring a few extra bucks along!
